Spectacular 25th Anniversary of The Insurance Charity Golf day

From dazzling Aerobatic shows to stunning prizes and a record amount raised for charity the 25th Annual Insurance Charity Golf day was certainly an event that will live long with those who attended…

The iconic Stoke by Nayland Golf Resort provided the perfect venue for the City of London Friends’ golf day, which was partnered by Total Objects and in aid of Cancer Research UK.

With over £250,000 raised over the past quarter of century, the event has helped support the fantastic results that Cancer Research UK have achieved in those 25 years with survival rates now doubling to 2 in 4. Events like the Golf day are crucial to this continual progress and we were delighted to see so many participants from the Insurance Market converge on the Championship standard course to help mark the 25th Anniversary of this day in style.

This year Total Objects have made the fundraising more accessible to the wider community by introducing the ‘Total Objects Just Giving Giveaway’ whereby a minimum £10 donation ensures entry into a prize draw, with prizes including a Ski Holiday to Austria and an executive box for a Premier League match - it’s an opportunity not to be missed!

The 120 players, who were all specialists from across the London Insurance Market, competed for individual and team honours including the newly introduced Kevin Collins Memorial Trophy, in memory of our dearly departed Deputy Chairman who sadly passed away earlier this year.

With the course looking immaculate and the ‘hole in one’ prize of a state of the art Range Rover Evoque looking resplendent in the early morning sunshine, the players teed off and worked their way round the course completing the Texas Scramble Team Competition and the Stableford Individual Challenge. To spice up the golf there were also a number of opportunities for the players to win some fantastic prizes for a hole in one on Par 3 holes, with the showcase prize being a brand new Range Rover Evoque for whoever could achieve a ‘hole in one’ on the 18th. Sadly no one managed to claim this coveted prize, however Mickey Nunn of Xchanging agonizingly came within a few feet of getting the keys to a new motor! Lloyd’s Broker Cooper Gay once again claimed the team award, for a third consecutive year, with an aggregate score of 54.7 and David Brooke-Durrant from JLT Towers Re was the first recipient of the Kevin Collins Memorial Trophy scoring 40 points in the Stableford Challenge.

To help mark the 25th Anniversary of this special event in style, the internationally recognised and revered ‘Twister Aerobatic team’ first performed a spectacular afternoon display which was then followed up by the incredible night-time aerial extravaganza which lit up the course. The crowd were captivated as the team undertook a series of death defying loops and manoeuvres topped off with a full pyrotechnic display to ensure this was an event to remember.

Finally we heard from Frances Milner, Head of community-led Fundraising for Cancer Research UK, who explained how the money raised would help fund the continuing research into the disease and how we will one day beat cancer.

We look forward to the 2015 event and building a stronger partnership between the Insurance Industry and Cancer Research UK.

Client Testimonials

"The fact that so many teams and individuals of varying abilities came out to support the event goes a long way to illustrating how many good souls there are in our industry. So far we have all raised £12,500 for Cancer Research UK and we are hoping that we will continue to put money in the coffers of a charity that is close to our hearts.”
