A Rousing Success

24th Annual Insurance Charity Golf Day a rousing success

The picturesque Stoke-By-Nayland Golf Club was the setting for the 24th Annual Insurance Charity Golf Event partnered by Total Objects and in aid of Cancer Research UK.

140 players from the leading  companies in the Insurance and Reinsurance market took time out of their busy schedules to participate and raise crucial money for Cancer Research UK, and according to the resident PGA professional Roley Hitchcock ‘’The Golf Day is always one of the best attended events in the calendar with over 35 teams represented’’ . In addition to having the opportunity to showcase their talent on one of the most iconic Golf Clubs in the United Kingdom various prizes were on offer with a Brand New Range Rover Evoque, Golfing Holiday to Portugal and a weekend stay at the Belfry all available to whoever who achieve a hole-in-one on specific holes. Unfortunately no one was able to claim the ‘big’ prizes, however there were a few agonizingly close efforts with Karl Murray coming within just a few feet of claiming himself a new motor.

To allow for the large numbers of participants, the field was split in half with a Texas Scramble Team Competition competed for by half the field whist the rest took part in an individual Stableford competition. After lunch the two halves swapped over. In the Texas Scramble, although there were some top performances by all of the participants, Cooper Gay managed to card an impressive net score of 52.7 meaning they managed to reclaim last year’s crown and better their score of 58.9 where they managed to birdie 14 of the 18 holes. The afternoon saw the commencement of the individual competition and the eventual winner of this was Phil Bonner of AON Benfield who managed to claim the coveted title.

A welcome surprise for the football fans amongst the Golfers was the arrival of the Millwall FC players and staff who joined in for some fun on the practice putting green, let’s hope their Football is better than their Golf anyway!

Along with the Hole-In-One competitions there was also a putting competition on the aforementioned practice putting green. That was won by Alistair Murray who was the only person in the whole day to impressively sink the 50ft putt. Another added incentive to the day was the ever popular ‘gambling hole’ which encourages players to bet on which member of their team will perform the best on that particular hole, as you can imagine this was one of the most popular events of the day!

Of course the real meaning of the day was to raise substantial money for Cancer Research UK, a informative and passionate speech by Kris Martindale regarding how and where the money raised will be spent was given at the presentation evening and it was a touching moment regarding a charity close to the hearts of the organisers and participants. After the fantastic effort in 2012 of raising £12,500, the amount raised in 2013 surpassed this and £15,000 was raised and we would like to extend our thanks to all of those who donated and participated to the events success.

We hope to see you next year as we celebrate the 25th year of this fantastic event.

Client Testimonials

"The fact that so many teams and individuals of varying abilities came out to support the event goes a long way to illustrating how many good souls there are in our industry. So far we have all raised £12,500 for Cancer Research UK and we are hoping that we will continue to put money in the coffers of a charity that is close to our hearts.”
